Gary's News - 08/26/10 The DJ Music System is now on Facebook! CLICK HERE to add as a friend or add us to your "likes." Thank you!! Thank you for visiting The DJ Music System website. I'm glad you have stopped by! I want all of our customers to know the latest info with our DJ service, so I started this update page a few years ago for a few reasons:
PLEASE NOTE: this page may take a few moments to load as it contains A LOT of information and pictures. IT'S A BUSY AND EXCITING TIME RIGHT NOW!! We are talking with a lot of brides & grooms about their summer & fall weddings for both THIS year and NEXT year, and getting more dates reserved!! I can honestly tell you that if you are wanting to have The DJ Music System at your wedding or event this year or next, it's best to check your date now. Why? Well, this year ALL of our Saturdays in June were reserved, 5 weddings were booked in July, and dates for the rest of this year are filling up. We also have weddings & events reserved as far away as 2011 AND 2012 (yes, over 2 years away!). I always enjoy getting those phone calls or emails where the customer says "we've seen you before and we want YOU for our DJ," or "we have heard so many good things about you and we really want you for our DJ," or "a friend of ours saw you at a wedding and was very impressed with your performance and we would like to have The DJ Music System at our wedding." The DJ Music System is dedicated to making events special, fun and memorable. We are always looking for ways to take what we do, make it even better, and to go above and beyond what we've done in the past. I, personally, am looking forward to all the events we have reserved for this year and the ones that are yet to be reserved (yes, YOUR event!). Thank you for taking a moment to see what we are up to and feel free to read about the events below, where we were the DJ service of choice and the fun everyone had at them. Gary Uhrich - Owner and DJ of The DJ Music System
On Saturday, August 21st The DJ Music System was at Chris and K' Lynn's wedding reception at it was held at the Scottsbluff Armory. It was a hot summer day and a VERY POPULAR day for weddings this month!! K' Lynn reserved us for her reception quite a while back and you wouldn't believe how many calls we had after she reserved the date from other brides and grooms wanting the SAME DATE! I could have been at, at least a dozen wedding receptions, but since I'm only one person, I could only be the DJ at one reception. Many dates get reserved early for weddings every summer and I have to tell customers that we're already booked on those dates, and then there's always that one BIG DAY for weddings and August 21st was the date this year. The guests started to arrive around 4:30 for this short and sweet reception. It was an evening of celebrating Chris and K' Lynn's wedding, cake, dinner, special moments, toasts and dancing. We wrapped up the evening and were all packed up and leaving just before 9:00. Thank you again to the newlyweds...I wish you the very best!
July 31st was the date that Zac and Jessica chose for their wedding and The DJ Music System was at the reception to make it a dream come true! I spoke with Zac in July 2009 about their wedding in July 2010 (yes, they reserved us a year in advance) and after a few emails, they decided to have The DJ Music System provide the music. It was our 4th time being at the Gering Civic Center during the month of July 2010 and it was another excellent wedding reception. The newlyweds and wedding party were introduced and from then on the night went just as planned. The photographer traveled several miles to be here and he complimented me on our dance lighting. He’s been to many wedding receptions and has seen other DJs use “out-dated” lights, but was impressed with the modern lighting that we use!! I knew several of the guests at the reception and enjoyed visiting with them and quickly became friends with the other guests requesting songs. Once the dance was underway it was a packed floor all night...the only time the dance floor was empty was when it was midnight and it was time for everyone to call it a night. There were many special moments that night, like when the groomsmen sang to Jessica, or when everyone sang happy birthday to a special guest, plus not to mention the dollar dance and a lot of other requested moments. Take a look at the pictures below and see how much fun this reception was! Thank you and congratulations again to the newlyweds, Zac and Jessica. I wish you the very best!
It was a special wedding reception for Jack and Jessica in Torrington on Saturday night, July 17th at the Rendezvous Center. When they spoke with their wedding planner and asked about a DJ, The DJ Music System was on the TOP OF HER LIST as THE DJ to hire. I had many nice phone calls with both the mother of the bride and Jessica, and from those phone calls I could tell this was going to be a great wedding reception to DJ. I arrived plenty early to get everything set up and while I was set up on the stage, my lights and equipment almost looked hidden with the large, white gazebo that was in front of the stage and was the "dance floor." However, when the dance part of the night began, the gazebo actually enhanced the dance lights and acted somewhat like a "screen" and really showed off the effects that the dance lights I use! Once everyone arrived, I introduced the wedding party and newlyweds, followed by a slide show, dinner, cake and toasts, then it was time to DANCE!! Here are some nice pics of the fun everyone was having that night:
Saturday, July 3rd, was night 2 of 2 at the Gering Civic Center for Kelsey and James' wedding reception! Yes, 2 weddings that weekend for The DJ Music System and both were at the GCC.
You've probably have heard of "deja vu," and this was kind of like having one of those experiences, so-to-speak. Kelsey and James were a super nice couple who celebrated their wedding reception at the Gering Civic Center and had the exact same set up as the night before's reception (see below). The wedding party table, guest tables, dance floor, food tables, gift table, and where The DJ Music System was to be placed, were ALL set up just as they were the on Friday night...and most of the same staff were there, too. Make sense so far? To top that off, James and Kelsey chose the SAME song for their grand introduction that the couple from Friday night chose! After the introduction, it was time for a prayer & dinner, a DVD slide show, followed by some funny and emotional toasts, their first dance as husband and wife, father/daughter & mother/son dances and cutting of the wedding cake, I started the dance part of the night and the floor quickly packed. Many requests for Country, Line/Group dances, the Chicken dance (and a few others along those lines), Rock and Top 40. We also took a moment for the bouquet/garter toss, followed by a dollar dance. Towards the end of the night it was mostly newer Top 40, Hip Hop, and lots of popular songs!! It was fun time and even though there were many similarities between the nights, I kept it fresh and special for each of the two receptions. Thank you again James and Kelsey, congratulations, and I wish you the best!!
It was 2 nights at the Gering Civic Center this holiday weekend!! Friday night, July 2nd The DJ Music System was at Sarah and Fernando's wedding reception at the Gering Civic Center. The guests started to arrive just shortly before 6pm and I was ready to make all the announcements and play some special music for their grand introduction! I could tell from the talks on the phone with Sarah that they were going to be a fun group to entertain. From the moment of their exciting introduction at the reception to the final song of the night, every second was enjoyable and memorable. After the dinner, toasts and cake, it was time to start dancing!! Sarah and Fernando surprised all the guests with their first dance together as husband and wife...started out slow and then quickly switched into some fast songs and dancing (kind of like what most people have seen on youtube)! Talk about exciting and fun to watch! The cheering and clapping for them was non-stop, song after song. After a few more special dances it was time to invite everyone else to join them on the dance floor. I took a lot of requests; Country, Oldies, Top 40, Kumbias, Line Dances and so much more, too. The night went by quickly since everyone was having so much fun, at one point towards the end, Sarah was thanking me for doing a great job and said "it's 11:50 already?" Yes, midnight was the time we were all set to wrap up, but it was clear that they weren't ready to call it a night by any means. What an excellent group of guests to entertain and after many handshakes and thank you's, it was time to tear down and head home. THANK YOU again Sarah and Fernando for choosing The DJ Music System for your reception, I really enjoying being your DJ!! Congratulations!! Here's a nice email from Sarah and Fernando that we received shortly after the reception that I am glad to post: Gary, Thanks so much!!! The wedding reception was a real HIT!!! Everyone Loved the music and had a great time Dancing! It was so much fun for us that we couldn't believe how fast the night went. Thanks again for everything! It was GREAT!!! Thanks, Sarah and Fernando
Saturday night, June 26th, we wrapped up our events for June 2010 with Kesley and Joel's wedding at the Hampton Inn and since last night I've been trying to think of a word that would describe the atmosphere of their reception...and I'm sure that "exciting" and "energetic" are understatements. WOW!!! What a funtastic (is that a word?) group of people. I honestly could not have asked for a better group of people to wrap up the month June! After dinner, toasts, cake, slide show and a few other things, it was time to start the dance...and DANCING they did. It was a reception full of fun songs, lots of requests, dancing, singing, partying, celebrating....yes, it was a huge reception to remember! I had so much fun playing music for the guests, taking requests, making many announcements, visiting with the guests, and made each event during the night even bigger than I think anyone planned on, and when it was time to call it a night, NOBODY was ready to go home just yet. After talking with the Kelsey's dad, he told me to keep playing til midnight, and I was glad to keep the music going. During my 15 years of being a mobile DJ, I have to say this group of people is definately in the top 3 of being most energetic and fun!! It's a good thing I brought my camera, since there were many moments that I wanted to capture and post. I took a lot of pictures, check out the pics below this update. By midnight I had to wrap up the dance and while I did so, numerous guests thanked me for doing a great job, asked for business cards, and were telling me how much fun they had. One of the guests asked me a few questions about The DJ Music System since she was so impressed with what I bring. She said to me "ya know, some DJs only bring a small table a few speakers and lights and that's it...but you bring SO MUCH MORE!!" I thanked her for the compliment and told her that over the years of doing this, I always do my best to keep bringing more to events and really do my best for my customers. It's rewarding in and of itself when I hear compliments like this from people...and it reminds me why I love being a mobile DJ. Thank you and congratulations again, I wish you two the VERY best!! Here is a thank you note we received from Kelsey and Joel: Gary, Joel and I would like to thank you for the wonderful job that you did at our wedding reception. Everyone had such a great time and it was mostly due to you keeping everyone out on the dance floor and playing what everybody wanted! We appreciate that you let us plan the night the way we wanted and you were so helpful with making everything run smoothly. Thanks again and we would definitely recommend your services. Thank you, Joel & Kelsey Duffield
Friday night, June 25th was the 50th Anniversary celebration for Jim and Laura at the Scottsbluff Country Club and The DJ Music System was there playin' the oldies!! Oh yeah, it was an evening of music from the 50's and 60's. While I enjoy many styles of music and am used to playing a wide variety at most events I DJ, it's a nice change for an evening of nothin' but the oldies. Everything from Elvis to The Platters, Hank Williams to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin to Charley Pride...well, you get the idea. After the 3 hour celebration, it was time to call it a night. I spoke with some of the guests there and you wouldn't believe how many compliments I received about the selection of music!! One thing about being a DJ, it's very important to know your music, and I'm thinking it was quite obvious that I knew what the guests wanted to hear and played exactly that. Thank you Susan for reserving The DJ Music System for your in-laws 50th Anniversary celebration. Here is a follow up email I received from Susan: Thank you for helping to make the 50 year anniversary party for my in-laws occasion extra special! The mix of music was absolutely fantastic and your professionalism & ease of conducting business from another state was second to none. Thank you again, Susan Our 3rd event of this month was a wedding for Barbara and Steve on Saturday, June 19th at the Minatare Lounge. I spoke with Barbara quite a while back and she mentioned that I was HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and wanted to make sure that she had The DJ Music System at her wedding reception! I made sure everything was set up and ready-to-go that afternoon and the reception actually started earlier than planned, but I was ready and really enjoyed being at this event. I visited with Barbara and Steve and heard that the wedding ceremony was wonderful. After a light dinner, cake, toasts and pictures, the dance part of the evening began. It was a nice group of guests...with lots of requests and dancing!! I spoke with many of the people there as they were requesting songs or simply telling me "Gary, you're doing a fantastic job!" I had everything from popular requests to some that haven't been requested in a while and it's always cool to hear everyone cheer, clap or simply have that look on their face when their song is played and know that I am making each event special for that group of people. When the night was over, I went the extra mile and offered to help tear down and clean up the decorations, chairs, tables, etc. Thank you and congratulations Barbara and Steve! Here is a note we received in a "thank you" card from them: "Thank you for doing such a wonderful job and putting everyone"s feelings and requests before anything else. And thanks so much for helping tear down." Here are some of the pictures I took that night:
"Good morning" is something I don't think I've ever said to the Hampton Inn staff as I was setting up equipment Saturday, June 12th. That's right it was an 11:00 A.M. wedding reception for Zachary and Samantha and it was one of the most energetic receptions I've DJed so far this year. Even though the guest list was around 50 to 60 people, it didn't stop them from filling up the dance floor. After the dinner, cake, toasts, and a few special dances, the guests were ready to dance!! What a fun group of people to play for and I was truly glad to have been a part of their day. It was a request list full of fun songs, line dances, a few special slow ones, and an afternoon of dancing! Here is an email from Samantha we received that I'd like to share with you: Gary, I just wanted to say another thanks to you for playing at our reception. Zachary and I really did appreciate everything. It was a great celebration, even though it was bright and early in the morning. Thank you once again, it was a wonderful day. Sincerely, Samantha Schol.
It was a 45th Wedding Anniversary celebration on Saturday, June 5th for Janet and Harold at the American Legion in Morrill and we were excited to be their DJ service. After the dinner, cake, announcements and a dedication, the dance was underway. It was a casual and enjoyable evening for everyone who attended. Lots of requests, mostly oldies and favorites filled the list and it was a really fun time! We wrapped up the night at 11 and after many "thank you's," handshakes, etc., I was able to start loading up equipment and head home. Thank you again to Janet and Harold for having The DJ Music System for your anniversary party!!
Tony and Michelle had an EXCITING wedding reception on Saturday, May 29th at the Event Center in Mitchell and I was glad to be their DJ. It was a great night of music, requests, dancing and fun! Michelle reserved The DJ Music System quite a while back and it's a good thing she did because May 29th proved to be a popular date for weddings. We received many calls/emails for the same date, but had to tell them we're already reserved. Some of our customers have specific instructions and requests, then there are couples like Tony and Michelle who were super nice and friendly...and they only had 2 song requests and told me they trusted me to make the rest of the selections. After the dinner, cake, a short birthday celebration for one of the grandma's there, pictures, toasts, etc., I started the dance and it was non-stop dancing til it was time to wrap up the night. Both Tony and Michelle thanked me for doing a great job and I told them thank you and I was glad to have been a part of their special day. Thanks again Tony and Michelle, I wish you two the very best!! Friday night (May 21st) at the Hampton Inn I was at Dave and Jill's wedding. They reserved the entire Hampton dance hall and it was a packed house! Everything ran smooth...from the introduction, dinner, toasts and dance!! I made sure to talk with everyone to make sure we were all on the same page with events and it always makes for a much more enjoyable reception for everyone attending. After a few special dances for the newlyweds, it was time to invite everyone else to the dance floor. There were a lot of kids there, so I played some special songs for them and took requests all night. One fun thing about receptions is the variety of requests, everything from Johnny Cash to the Cupid Shuffle, oldies to new music, and many fun songs in between! Another enjoyable thing that happens OFTEN at weddings is people complimenting me on the "dinner music" I play. Yes, not just the dance music, but dinner music, too! I've done a lot of searching for enjoyable instrumental music and it's definately paid off and it is very nice to hear compliments on it. One of the guests asked me if it was "a CD" she could buy, I told her, "no, it's just a mix of music I play, but thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed it." Other times people will come up to me and ask "where did you find the instrumental versions of those songs??" The last hour and a half was a lot of fun last night as I played some requests mixed in with songs I know people love to dance to and it wrapped up the night perfectly! As for pictures, I only really took a few, since I was so busy with requests, visiting with the guests and keeping everying running (I will post the pictures soon). When I started tearing down equipment, the parents of the bride thanked me for doing such a great job and I told them that "I was glad to be a part of the reception." Thank you to Dave, Jill and everyone who was involved in putting the reception together! I wish you the very best!! A Wednesday evening event? Yes, on May 19th we were at the Gering Civic Center for Speak Out's event. It was an enjoyable evening for all that attended. There were games, balloons, prizes and much more! While most of the events we DJ are on the weekends, it was nice to have one right in the middle of the week. I played a nice mix of today's music, some dinner music, then after the guest speakers were done, some dance music to wrap up the night. Thank you to Speak Out for calling us and choosing The DJ Music System for your event last night, I was glad to be a part of it! After 7 solid bookings over the past 7 weeks, we enjoyed a weekend off (May 15th & 16th). While it may have been a weekend off, my DJ gears were still in motion and it was nice to be able to have some extra time to work on some of the new and exciting items that I'm planning on adding to our DJ service. What I have been doing over the years as a mobile DJ continues to expand, update and provide even more for our customers. I have so many ideas right now and am talking with a professional audio person to bring even more sound to our events. Yes, we already have a great sounding audio system, but I would like to add even more, not just for more sound, but to show our customers that when you choose The DJ Music System, you are getting one of the best set ups and mobile DJ service's available in Scottsbluff and surrounding areas! And not just more sound, more dance lights, too!! Yes, more modern dance lights are in the very near future. There are so many new lights available to mobile DJs and I want to see our lighting set up provide some of the most dance lights that you've ever seen a DJ in western Nebraska bring to an event. I will keep you updated on this, so feel free to check back. The Scenic Knolls Golf Course reserved us again on Friday, May 7th for another dance and birthday party! Wendy called us a few weeks ago and wanted to find out if we had a few Friday's available and it turns out the May 7th worked out great for both them and The DJ Music System. It has to say something when we have many customers, like the SKGC and other organizations/schools exclusively call us to DJ their events and we enjoy the fact that we continually return to entertain them and their guests. I had a great time playing the tunes, taking requests and visiting with those who attended. One of the guests was asking me if we could DJ one of her up coming parties and I was glad to hand her a business card. Last Friday was a night of mostly oldies, country, rock and a few newer tunes and I did take some pictures (which I'll post soon) of the fun everyone was having. Thank you to Wendy, the SKGC and everyone that attended the dance and party! We wrapped up Prom Season on May 1st at a school that has reserved us for a lot of dances over the past few years. I'm pretty sure we must be doing something right when 4 out of 4 dances throughout this past year at the Guernsey Sunrise High School were reserved with The DJ Music System! In talking with one of the teachers there, I was told that the students specifically request that The DJ Music System is THE DJ for their dances. Last night was another exciting dance for their school. Usually when I've traveled there, there's some snow on the roads and it's already dark or nearly dark, but yesterday the weather was great and there was plenty of daylight as I pulled up to the school to get everything unloaded. The dance was underway a little before 9p with a Royalty dance, then a few pictures with the parents...and then the dance was underway for everyone else! It was an excellent prom that wrapped up the dances for their school and all the other school dances we DJed this school year. THANK YOU again to GSHS for continually reserving The DJ Music System for your school's events!! See ya next year!
April 30th was the date for the ESU #13 Merridian School's Prom at the Gering Civic Center and it was a fun night of everything from oldies, to country, to hip hop and a lot of fun songs. Thank you to ESU #13 for reserving us again for your school's prom! Looking forward to being your DJ again in 2011 AND 2012! Saturday night, April 24th, was a big night for prom! Most of the schools in the area were having prom all on the same night. I could have been the DJ at most any of them, but Bridgeport High School called me first for the date and they were the school that enjoyed the music and entertainment of The DJ Music System. Mr. McGrath called me way back at the beginning of the school year and it's a good thing he did! We received many phone calls and emails from other schools all asking for the same date!! Usually Bridgeport reserves us for at least 2 of their school dances every year, but we were already reserved on the first date (with another school's dance) they asked about in October. This year they decided to have their prom in the high school and it was decorated nicely. I arrived with plenty of time to set up and everything ran great. After the crowning of the royalty, the dance was officially underway. The students kept the request list full with everything from hip hop to country and everything in between. It was a fun night with music they enjoyed and a few group dances! (see the pictures below) Thank you Mr. McGrath, the students, and everyone else who was involved with putting Prom 2010 together and reserving The DJ Music System for your dance. See ya next year!!
Saturday, April 17th, we traveled to Oshkosh, NE for the Garden County High School Prom. It's about an hour and a half drive there and it was a fun night for all the students. The Jr. class did a fantastic job decorating the gym...Vegas style!! Yes, it was a Vegas themed prom with everything from an Elvis cardboard cutout, a Vegas archway (which was used for the grand march, very cool), huge posters of Vegas pictures and familiar places there, a water fountain, balloons, cards and they had tiny fake dollar bills all over the floor. They really went all-out for this prom!! I arrived extra early since they were planning on a dinner in the gym. After the dinner, grand march, pictures, etc. it was time to start the dance. With all the Vegas decorations, I thought it'd be cool to start out the dance with a vegas themed song, and since Viva Las Vegas was a little too old of a song to play at a high school dance, I went with Waking Up In Vegas by Katy Perry. The students had plenty of songs in mind they wanted to hear and they quickly started writing down and telling me all the songs they wanted to dance to that night! Requests were mostly hip hop & top 40...and a handful of country songs. I could tell everyone was having a good time dancing to their requests, plus songs like the YMCA, Cupid Shuffle, and many other group dance songs! After the couple hours of dancing, it was time to wrap up at midnight. I packed up and headed back to Scottsbluff and arrived back in town a little after 2:00 a.m. Thank you to Penny and the students at Garden County High School for choosing The DJ Music System for your 2010 prom! Here's an email I'd like to share with you from the teacher who hired The DJ Music System for the prom: Thanks, Gary- you did a great job! Many of the kids and teachers had several positive things to say about you. I'll more than likely contact you for next year's prom- thanks again! - Penny
On Saturday, April 10th we enjoyed being the DJ service for Greg and Vicky's wedding at the Country Club in Alliance, NE. From the first time Greg contacted me several months ago all the way up until the evening before their big day, he and I had some great phone conversations and emails about his wedding reception, what he was wanting to take place during the reception, music requests, etc. I was really looking forward to this reception and everything went exactly as planned. A nice dinner was served, several toasts were made, and he and I even did a short and humorous skit to tell everyone about the surprise details of their honeymoon! The dance part of the night was a lot of fun and I took a lot of great pictures. The night wrapped up with 2 song requests made specifically from the newlyweds and as I was tearing down our equipment, several of the guests and wedding party thanked me for doing a great job. Thank you again to Greg and Vicky for choosing The DJ Music System for your reception!! We wish you the very best!!! Here's a note I received from Greg about The DJ Music System: - Gary, Vicky and I so deeply enjoyed your DJ service at our Reception and we too received good comments about you doing a great job. Everyone we talked to said they had a great time, both on and off the dance floor. Your service was far beyond our expectations and also, thank-you for going along with the little script I had you and I go through. I really had fun doing that.................so thank-you for joining in. - Greg & Vicky
On Saturday night (April 3rd), we were at the Gering Civic Center for Chuck and Val's wedding reception! I remember speaking with Chuck a while back about his reception and explained what The DJ Music System offers and what we're all about. After only a few minutes in talking with him he said "you're it, you're hired!!" And like that, his wedding reception date was reserved just for him and Val with The DJ Music System! One of the great things about being a mobile DJ service is that we get to see many different types of wedding receptions. Some are super fancy and formal, some are casual and some are somewhere in between. This reception was on the casual side and everyone there was enjoying the company and the celebration of the newlyweds. After the dinner and cake, it was time to dance!! The request were everything from polka to hip hop, country to dance and, well, you get the idea. The dancing of the guests started as quickly as the music started. We played a few fun songs for the younger ones and made sure to play some good oldies for the older guests. Thank you Chuck and Val for an enjoyable and fun night and having The DJ Music System provide the music for your special day!
I decided it was a good time to move some of the older updates to another page to make room for all the pictures and info we've been doing lately. I have a lot of pictures to post and want to speed up the load time for this page. If you are wanting to read what we've been up to over the past few years, just click the link below.
